As the speed and complexity of the world increases, governments need new ways to effectively address the critical challenges of our time.
Public Interest Technology means placing citizens at the center. I define Public Interest Technology as the application of:
- Conception - Informed by real human needs
- Use of real-time data to guide the resolution of complex problems
- Focus on delivery to continuously learn and improve
This embodies the essence of the #GovTech trend.
Stressing the collaborative effort between governments and technology startups to innovate through small-scale experiences before scaling up.
It is not possible to solve the world's most difficult problems without the Government.
My journey shows me that civil servants are not the problem.
The Government is not the problem.
The problem is in the systems.
The big problem lies in incentives.
Government structures are no longer well adapted to serve citizens.
Technology can play a key role, but it's never the only solution. As we know, the technology doesn't work in a vacuum. The change lies in technology explicitly designed to solve clearly defined problems.
Blockchain is a real example, serving as a governance technology. This technology has the potential to improve the effectiveness of government processes. It can increase trust and improve the delivery of public services.
Silos exist between most government agencies. And the absence of connectivity between departments fuels a greater concern for data consistency and integrity.
Blockchain technology could completely change the way public services are provided to residents.
